| Vested interest 既得利益 | A personal / financial interest that may make someone benefit from a particular outcome.
|---|---|---|
| Overgeneralisation 过度概括 | always / all / never / everyone | “It generalises from [one case / limited evidence] to all cases, but exceptions may exist.” |
| Ad hominem 人身攻击 | 攻击说话者本人 | “It attacks the person rather than their reasoning, so the claim itself is never actually disproved.” |
| Circular argument 循环论证 | 结论 = 前提换说法 | “The conclusion simply restates the reason, so nothing is actually proved.” |
| Appeal to authority 诉诸权威 | “experts say…” 无证据 | “It relies on who said it rather than evidence, and the ‘expert’ may not be an expert in this field / may have a vested interest.” |
| Appeal to emotion 诉诸情感 | 恐惧/同情/愤怒词 | “It tries to make the reader feel [emotion] instead of giving evidence, so feeling convinced is not the same as the reasoning being valid.” |
| False dichotomy 虚假二选一 | either…or… 只有两选项 | “It presents only two options as if there were no alternatives, but [第三种可能] is also possible.” |
“The statement ‘Hunger always destroys health’ is an overgeneralisation. The word ‘always’ assumes hunger harms health in every case without exception, but the source gives no evidence covering all situations — for example, short-term hunger may not cause lasting harm. Hunger is usually harmful, but ‘usually’ does not prove ‘always’.”
“This is an overgeneralisation because it is exaggerated.” ——
Q1 常见链条:(a) Identify → (b) Explain 术语/谬误 → (c) Summarise a perspective → (d) 最重要因素短文。
“Overall, the charity believes hunger is getting worse but can be solved if people act together. It describes people who ‘must not be ignored’, showing it sees hunger as an urgent moral problem. It calls on readers to ‘join us’ and to ‘support our food programmes’, so its solution is collective action and donations. Its tone is urgent but hopeful: the problem is serious, yet presented as solvable.”
第 1 句(选择):The most important factor is [只选一个].
理由 2(机制):It leads directly to [问题], since [因果解释].
理由 3(连锁):It also causes further problems such as [连锁后果 1] and [连锁后果 2], which makes it more serious than [另一个因素], because [对比理由].
结尾:Therefore, tackling [该因素] would [最直接的改善], which is why it should be prioritised.
“The most important cause is poverty and unemployment. Without income, families cannot buy food even when food is available, so this factor affects everyday survival for large numbers of people. It is also a root cause: poverty leads to poor healthcare and low education, which then make hunger harder to escape. Other causes matter, but if people had stable incomes, many of those effects would be reduced. Therefore poverty should be tackled first.”
只写定义、和 (i) 的句子对不上,只得 1 分(Mark Scheme 原话:shows understanding but relationship to the example is not clear)。
|---|---|---|
| 3 | 5–6 | Clear analysis · describes a wide range of elements · frequent use of relevant material / examples from the source |
| 2 | 3–4 | Some analysis · a range of elements · some use of source material |
| 1 | 1–2 | Limited analysis · limited range · little or no use of source material |
Issue 议题:The writer is concerned about [global issues / global social justice] and wants to “make the world a better place” / create a secure future.
Values 价值观:They believe it is important to care about these issues — “We cannot ignore these global issues” — ignoring them is presented as wrong.
Cause 原因:Because of globalisation, these issues “will affect all countries”, so no country can treat them as someone else’s problem.
Consequence 后果:If nothing is done, the future is insecure — “Time is running out”; the impact is global, not local.
Action 行动:People must “join together” and take action / protest — “Don’t ignore the situation.”
自查:Issue ✓ Values ✓ Cause(globalisation)✓ Consequence ✓ Action ✓,引用 5 处 → 这就是 wide range + frequent material。
先从 Source 2 的清单里只选一个议题(8 个任选,无标准答案):unemployment & lack of economic development · pandemics & inadequate health care · poverty & social inequality · migration & refugees · war, armed conflict & violence · global warming & climate change · crime & political corruption · environmental damage & loss of biodiversity。
Mark Scheme(Table B)Level 4 = 7–8 分:opinion clearly explained and supported; explanation credible and clearly related to the issue。
|---|---|
| Greatest impact on people / environment / planet |
| Affects the most people — locally, nationally, internationally |
| Ethically / morally most important |
| Multiple negative consequences |
| Creates a vicious circle |
| Affects other aspects of life for different groups |
| Reflects expert opinion |
| Most difficult to solve |
| “…has first-hand experience, so the information is likely to be accurate.” |
| “…used the same questions for everyone, so the study could be repeated consistently.” |
| “…actually measures [X], so the conclusions follow from the evidence.” |
| “…directly addresses the research question, rather than a related topic.” |
| “…is recent, which matters because [话题] changes quickly.”(注意:新≠自动更好) |
| Sample size
| “…only includes [一类人], so the results cannot be generalised to [更大人群].” |
| 必须写机制:“The funder may want [结果], which could influence [选题/提问/解读].”
| “The conclusion goes beyond the evidence because [证据只覆盖…].” |
Strength 1 — Credibility:“One strength is credibility. The researcher interviewed the manager of a local food project, who works with hungry families every day. This is primary evidence from someone with first-hand experience, so the details about local needs are likely to be accurate.”
Weakness 1 — Representativeness:“However, the sample is a weakness. Only one local project was studied, so the findings reflect one area and cannot be generalised to world hunger, where causes and conditions differ widely.”
Weakness 2 — Reliability(细节型,特别加分):“Reliability is also limited because the interviewee said they could not hear some questions clearly. This means the notes may record answers to questions that were misunderstood, so repeating the interview might not produce the same results.”
|---|---|---|
| 4 | 7–8 | Consistently evaluative · wide range of points, both strengths and weaknesses · reasoned explanation, credible & clearly related to the research |
| 3 | 5–6 | Mainly evaluative · a range of points · mostly credible explanations |
| 2 | 3–4 | Partly evaluative · points mostly descriptive with little explanation |
| 1 | 1–2 | Limited · points asserted, no explanation;
Why do people use peaceful protest…” | “…gives the research a clear focus and keeps it on track, so everything collected is relevant to the question.” |
| 问卷方法与问题相关,是一手资料 | 直接问游行现场的抗议者本人 | “…gathers primary evidence from the people whose motives the question is about.” |
| 数据可量化、可系统分析 | 5 个固定问题、统一发放 | “…produces measurable data that can be analysed factually / statistically in a systematic way.” |
| 随机抽样减少偏见 | 100 份问卷 “given to protestors at random” | “…random sampling reduces researcher bias in who gets asked.” |
| 样本潜在较大 | 发放量达 100 份 | “…a potentially large sample could give more representative and accurate data.”(注意用 potentially——实际回收只有约 20 份,这正是下面的弱点) |
20%) | “…those who bothered to post it back may differ from those who did not, so the small achieved sample may be biased and less accurate.” |
| 不具代表性 → 效度 / 可靠性受损 | 只有一场游行、一个城市(Mumbai)、一个国家、一个议题(环境) | “…cannot be generalised to protesters elsewhere or on other issues, so the data may not be valid / reliable beyond this march.” |
| 游行现场环境造成干扰 / 偏见 | 在游行进行中现场发放 | “…the march environment may distract respondents and make their answers less accurate.” |
| 研究者安全与伦理问题 | 研究者亲自加入游行人群发放问卷 | “…the researcher may be in danger and not safe, which breaches ethical guidelines.” |
| 个别问题有引导性 | 第 5 问 “Why don’t you just write to the government?” | “…the wording ‘just’ implies marching is the wrong choice, which may skew / bias responses.”(其余如 “Do you think this march will make a difference?”
未给来源 | “…inadequate citation makes the claim difficult to check or verify.” |
“One strength is the clear, focused research question, ‘Why do people use peaceful protest to create change?’, which keeps the research on track. The questionnaire is also appropriate because it collects primary, measurable data directly from protesters, and giving 100 questionnaires out at random reduces selection bias. However, only about 20 questionnaires were completed and returned by post, so the achieved sample is small and those who replied may be unrepresentative, making the data less accurate. The sample is also limited to one march in one city, Mumbai, on one issue, the environment, so the findings cannot be generalised to peaceful protest more widely.”
例如 “most people” = 超过 50%?“grow their own food” = 过去 12 个月种过?
|---|---|---|
| 1 Aim | 一句话研究目的 | “The aim is to test whether [claim 改写成可测量形式] in [目标人群].” |
| 2 Methods | ≥3 种,primary + secondary 结合 | “I would use a questionnaire, interviews, and existing official data so the results can be cross-checked (triangulation).” |
| 3 Population | 谁和 claim 有关 | “The target population is [人群], because [与 claim 的关系].” |
| 4 Sample | 人数范围 + 抽样方式 | “I would survey [数量范围] people selected by random / stratified sampling across [年龄/地区], to avoid a self-selected sample.” |
| 5 Data & Questions |
| 6 Analysis | 先定判断标准再分析 | “The claim would be supported if more than 50% … and the official data also shows …” |
| 7 Justification | 每步为什么适合本 claim | 每段末尾加一句 “This is appropriate because …” |
| 8 Limitations | 困难 + 怎么减小 | “A limitation is [偏差]; to reduce this I would [措施].” |
| ❌ Leading / biased | ✅ Neutral & specific |
|---|---|
| “Don't you think growing your own food is great?” | “In the past 12 months, have you grown any food yourself? How often: weekly / monthly / never?” |
| “Do you agree most people love gardening?” | “Which best describes you: I grow food regularly / occasionally / never?” |
“The aim is to test whether more than half of adults in [my city] grow food themselves regularly. First, I would use a questionnaire with a stratified random sample of about 200 adults across different age groups and districts, asking neutral questions such as how often they grew food in the past 12 months. A questionnaire is appropriate because the claim is about ‘most people’, so I need numbers from many people, not just opinions. Second, I would interview about 10 of the respondents in depth to understand why they do or do not grow food, which explains the patterns behind the numbers. Third, I would compare my results with existing government / gardening-association data; if my survey and the official data agree, the conclusion is more reliable (triangulation). I would not only share the questionnaire on my own social media, because that would reach mainly people like me — a self-selected sample. The claim would be supported only if over 50% report growing food regularly AND the secondary data shows a similar proportion. A limitation is self-report bias — people may exaggerate — which I would reduce by making the questionnaire anonymous and asking about a specific time period.”

| 4 | 7–8 | Appropriate & fully justified design · wide range of methods and evidence · explanations credible & clearly related to testing the claim |
| 3 | 5–6 | Appropriate & justified · a range of methods · mostly related |
| 2 | 3–4 | Partly justified · mostly descriptive, little explanation |
| 1 | 1–2 | Limited · methods described only, not credible / not related to the claim |
|---|---|
| Interviews with experts
| Interviews with protestors

Overall, [A / B]’s argument is more convincing because [一句话核心理由:e.g. its reasoning is consistent and its evidence is more relevant].
They support this with [理由] and the evidence that “[短引用]”. This is effective / weak because [逻辑或证据质量的解释].
A weakness is [如:moves away from the main claim / relies on emotion], which weakens the argument because [影响].
结尾:Therefore, although [弱方的一个优点,concession], [强方] is stronger overall because [重申核心理由].
| Bias / Vested interest |
Overall, Seth’s argument is more convincing than Grace’s, because it stays focused and links its evidence to practical solutions, whereas Grace’s argument loses its main line.”
分析 Grace:“Grace supports new technology in farming, giving relevant examples such as self-driving tractors, computers that monitor soil and weather, and seeds bred to survive difficult conditions. These examples make her claim concrete. However, in the second half she moves away from technology to criticising big food companies and rich countries, so her argument becomes less consistent.”
分析 Seth:“Seth consistently opposes industrial farming and proposes native crops with composting, which addresses both hunger and the environment. He supports this with evidence from the UN World Food Programme, a credible international source, and ends with actions individuals can take, such as eating less meat.”
评价 + 结尾:“Grace may also be influenced by her father, who is a farmer, which could shape her positive view of farm technology. Seth’s reasoning is more balanced and his conclusion follows from his evidence. Therefore, although Grace gives some strong technological examples, Seth’s argument is stronger overall.”
原题问法:“Which argument is more convincing, Aput’s or Panuk’s?” 并明确要求:consider both arguments · evaluate their reasoning, evidence and use of language · support your judgement with their words and ideas。
Table F(/8) |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | 7–8:Consistently analytic · wide range of aspects of both arguments · frequent source material · clear and explicit comparison | 7–8:Consistently evaluative · wide range of evaluative points · both reasoning AND evidence evaluated explicitly · judgement clear, supported & consistent |
| 3 | 5–6:Mainly analytic · a range of aspects · some source material · clear comparison | 5–6:Mainly evaluative · reasoning and/or evidence evaluated · judgement generally consistent |
| 2 | 3–4:Partly analytic, partly descriptive · limited range · occasional material · comparison 只是把两方并列(juxtaposition) | 3–4:Partly evaluative · points asserted with little explanation · judgement 缺清晰度、可能部分不一致 |
| Aput(挺大规模抗议) | Panuk(挺写信 + 个人行动) | |
|---|---|---|
| 优点(Mark Scheme) | 用相关例子作证据 · 历史证据(Martin Luther King、Mahatma Gandhi、今日的 Greta Thunberg)· 引用部分注明出处的学者研究 · 论证清晰、合逻辑 · 语言 respectful、measured(克制) | 承认对方观点(“You have a point, Aput”)→ 较 balanced · 有亲身经验作证据:父亲是 local politician,会读选区来信且称来信有用 · 热情投入话题 |
| 关键证据原文 | “Research in 2021 from respected academics shows that the number of protest movements worldwide has increased. In 2006 there were 70 protest movements, this rose to 240 in 2020.” | “My father is a local politician and he reads all the letters he receives… he wants their votes.” 具体个人行动:volunteer、buy products that reflect your values、eat more vegetarian and organic food |
| 缺点(Mark Scheme) | 证据总量不多 · 有 value judgements(如有权者 “look after their own vested interests”)别人未必认同 · 研究引用不完整(没给全出处)· 有断言 · 不平衡(没认真回应反方) | 例子少 · 证据少 · 几乎没有专家意见 · 有断言 · 语言有 disrespectful 处:“It is selfish and undermines democratic processes.”
| 可写的评价句 | “Aput’s statistics are relevant and dated (2021 research, 2006→2020 figures), but because the research is not fully referenced, the reader cannot check it, which limits its strength.” | “Panuk’s anecdote about his father is only one politician’s experience — an anecdote, not representative evidence — and his father has a vested interest in saying letters matter because he wants votes.” |
Overall, Aput’s argument is more convincing than Panuk’s, because Aput supports his claims with historical examples and research data, while Panuk relies mainly on one personal anecdote.”
Aput:“Aput argues that large-scale change ‘needs a mass movement of people to persuade governments to change laws or invest more money’. His reasoning is clear and logical: individuals can change their own lifestyle, but only collective action changes laws. He supports this with historical evidence — Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi and Greta Thunberg — and with research from 2021 showing protest movements rose from 70 in 2006 to 240 in 2020. His language is measured and respectful. However, the research is not fully referenced, so it cannot be checked, and claims such as powerful people ‘look after their own vested interests’ are value judgements that not everyone would accept.”
分析+评价 Panuk(显性对比):“Panuk is more balanced in one respect: he concedes ‘You have a point, Aput’ before disagreeing, which Aput does not do. But his evidence is weaker. His main support is his father, a local politician who ‘reads all the letters he receives’ — this is a single anecdote, and his father has a vested interest because he ‘wants their votes’. Panuk gives few examples and no expert evidence, and his language becomes disrespectful when he calls protest ‘selfish’ and says it ‘undermines democratic processes’, which is asserted rather than explained. Unlike Aput, he offers no evidence about impact at a national scale.”
结尾(与开头一致):“Therefore, although Panuk’s personal-responsibility ideas are practical and his argument is partly balanced, Aput’s argument is stronger overall because its reasoning is clearer and it is supported by a wider range of relevant evidence.”
自查对照 Level 4:both arguments ✓ wide range(logic、历史例、数据、语言、vested interest、balance 六个面)✓ frequent 原文引用 ✓ explicit comparison(“Unlike Aput…”)✓ reasoning 与 evidence 都评了 ✓ judgement 前后一致 ✓。
一个环保行动组想推动公众就全球变暖采取行动,三个备选行动三选一推荐:① Organise a peaceful protest march · ② Write to the government · ③ Promote the issue on social media。要求:state your recommendation · give reasons and evidence · use material in the sources and/or your own ideas · consider different arguments and perspectives。
|---|---|---|
| Table G 证据与理由 | 8(顶档 7–8) | Wide range of evidence and reasons, fully supporting the argument, clearly relevant |
| Table H 推理与组织 | 8(顶档 7–8) | Clear, convincing, sustained line of reasoning; well-structured, explicit consideration of different perspectives / actions |
| Table I 判断 | 4(顶档 4) | Judgements clearly related, clearly explained, consistent with the argument(3 分 = supported;2 分 = partly & 不一致;1 分 = 只断言) |
① Recommendation:I recommend that the group should [三选一], because [一句话核心理由].
Evidence from the sources: [引 Sources 1–4 的材料]. This matters because [解释].
③ 理由 2 + 对比另外两个:Compared with [行动 B], my choice [优势], whereas B [局限]. [行动 C] could [它的一个优点,concession], but [为什么仍不如我的选择].
④ 不同视角:From the perspective of [政府/公众/受影响群体], [他们的顾虑或支持]; barriers such as [障碍/vested interests] can be reduced by [办法].
⑤ 结尾判断(与开头一致):Therefore, [重申选择] is the most effective action because [重申核心理由].
Protest march | ② Write to government | ③ Social media |
|---|---|---|---|
(Panuk:disrupt other people’s lives);需保持和平合法 | 容易被忽略,缺少公众压力时力度弱 | 信息过载、只在同温层传播、可能流于口号 |
阅卷标注速记(看懂老师批改符号):EXP = explanation · EVAL = evaluation · EV = evidence · J = judgement · MOR = methods of research · P = perspective · R = reason/reasoning · REP = repetition(写重了)· NAQ = not answered question(跑题)· IR = not relevant。
Overgeneralisation(+ 无证据的动机推断)。四步:引用 “All rich countries…”
Aim: “To test whether more than 50% of teenagers aged 13–18 in [范围] prefer online study to classroom study.”
明确选一方并 weigh up:例如 “Although A provides more statistics, its conclusion does not follow from them, so the statistics add length rather than strength. B’s evidence is thinner but every reason connects to its claim, making B more convincing overall.”
“To what extent do you agree that school meals should be free for all students? Strongly agree / Agree / Disagree / Strongly disagree” 或 “Should school meals be free for all students? Yes / No / Not sure — please give a reason.”
两句: “Globalisation means that these issues will affect all countries.” 与 “Protest movements will grow.” 解释满分 = 定义(about what might happen in the future / has not happened yet)+ 指回该句的 will。“Protest movements will grow” is a prediction because “will grow” describes a future increase that has not happened yet.
Level 1–2(limited / some range)。补:values(cannot ignore)、cause(globalisation)、consequence(affects all countries / time is running out),并把引用加到 4–5 处、每处贴着一个要素写。
|---|---|
This is shown by the evidence that ‘…’.” / “For example, the source states ‘…’.” |
This shows … because …” / “This matters because it affects …” |
| 让步 | “Although [对方优点], this is outweighed by [更强理由] because …” |
X is more significant than Y because it affects more people / lasts longer / causes further problems.” |
| 判断收尾 | “Therefore, overall, [判断], mainly because [核心理由].” |
| 限定结论 | “This evidence only shows [范围], so it cannot prove [更大的主张].” |
